Week 17 officially began Tuesday but who's counting. Certainly not me. Yeah, right. Life is going well. I'm still pretty tired but I'm feeling good most of the time. My cravings have also changed. I'm still eating a lot of cottage cheese, but lately I've been craving carbs more than anything. It's been hard to turn my brain off and remember that carbs are good, even though I'm not running, but, I'm enjoying them. Especially tater tots! yes, that's right. I've been eating tater tots again. I honestly don't think I'd eaten a tater tot since middle school until a few weeks ago when I spotted them in Central Market. Mark put some seasonings on them and oh, my goodness, tater nirvana. I've also been craving celery. Not sure what could be in them that's good for me, but I've been eating a bunch nevertheless. The baby is about 12 cm now. Still very small, but the little squid is getting bigger by the day. Mark can feel the munchkin, but I've yet to feel the kiddo either move or stay still. Very frustrating. I told Mark the other day that I think my pregnancy a conspiracy between him and all my doctors. I'm not really pregnant. They just told me that so that I'd gain weight. I haven't gained much yet, probably about 10 lbs. I haven't weighed myself lately but I'm starting to show so I know that I have to have gained at least a little. More next week.

Week 15
We've made it to Week 15. Actually, we're at 15 weeks and two days. The big news is that we had our first sonogram last week. What an amazing experience. My mom came up, so Mark, mom and I got to see our little person for the first time. He/she/it is a little more than 10 cm right now but the toes and fingers have formed. We saw it all on the sonogram. His/her heartbeat is also very strong. I was worried at first, but the doctor said that 150 beats/minute is perfectly normal. Whew! It was about 130 at first, but I think the little one wanted to show off for his parents and grandma. It's got to be a boy. j/k. We don't know whether it's a he or a she and at this point, we don't want to know. If anyone has a suggestion of what I can call the little one, please let me know. I have been calling the little one "My little squid."
Love you all

p.s. we decided against posting sonogram pictures and a bunch of detailed information because WAAAY to many things can be manipulated on the Web. I really don't want to become the next internet porn star...Needless to say, I'm actually beginning to show now!

Chickens shut down part of I-30
OK, this has absolutely nothing to do with being pregnant...except for the fact that it brightened an otherwise blah day. Not the dead chicken part, the wandering ones. Even I feel bad for dead chickens.

By HOLLY YAN / The Dallas Morning News
Dead and wandering chickens closed all of westbound Interstate 30 just before First Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
A tractor-trailer hauling chickens and crates overturned about noon, Dallas police Senior Cpl. Jamie Matthews said. Some chickens died from the wreck, while others wandered about.
Cpl. Matthews estimated about 2 p.m. that the mess could be cleaned up before the late-afternoon rush hour.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not seriously injured. No other vehicles were involved, and investigators were trying to determine how the truck overturned.
Police did not know why the chickens crossed the interstate.

On to the pregnancy update:
If the above-mentioned story brightened my day, I'm sure many of you can imagine what kind of day I've had. On a scale of 1 to 10, it gets about a 4. It could be worse, but I just don't feel good. My head and nose are stuffy, my throat hurts, my tummy has been relatively unhappy all day--even after I ate a cup of cottage cheese at breakfast. It might have been the lemon yogurt at lunch. Yuck. Doesn't sound so good anymore. I'd like to go home, but I have to work today, Wed and Thursday. Evidently, I have Friday off. I had forgotten about that. So, my vacation is a day longer. Yeah!!!
Besides that, my face is broken out like a pepperoni pizza. My upper back isn't much better. I've never had any sort of skin problems so this is very frustrating and upsetting to me. I know it's for a good cause---after all, I am going to have a baby, but it's still upsetting. Mark says I'm beautiful, but he's biased.
Any ideas? Any tried and true remedies to keep my skin from breaking out?
Love you all

Week 13-14
Well, here goes on my first weekly post. I meant to do this yesterday, but alas, it is the holiday season. I spent most of the morning shopping and the afternoon wrapping. I probably spent more time trying to pick up a package at the post office than anywhere else, but what else is new this time of year.
For those of you that haven't seen me in a while, I've changed quite a bit in the past few months. I went from a 34B to a 36C and I'm well on my way--if I'm not already there--to a 36D. All I can say is they're heavy. Thank goodness I have a bunch of loose-fitting shirts. Otherwise, I'd be up a creek. My skin has also been driving me crazy, especially the past week or so. Dry skin is NO longer a problem. As greasy as my skin has been lately, though, I'd be happy if it dried out again.
I've only gained about 4 lbs.-- I weighed 147 lbs this morning--but I feel like I'm eating for three. Mark just laughs when we go to the grocery store. He's found me on several occasions practically drooling in the meat section. Last week, I had to have sausages. This week, I'm craving hamburgers. We haven't had any yet, but we split a pretty good size rib-eye last night and I have a package of lil' smokies eagerly awaiting me in the fridge. To give you an indication of what I've been like, Mark asked how I wanted him to cook the lil' smokies or if I'd like him to make a special sauce to dip them in. My reply: I just thought I'd nuke em and eat em plain. Meat. Meat. Meat. That's all I want.
Well, that and cottage cheese. Yes, I'm still eating a LOT of cottage cheese. (We go through a 48-60 oz. container a week!) I may be in my second trimester but I still feel icky sometimes and cottage cheese does the trick. Now, I'm not talking about the fat-free or 2% stuff I used to eat. I'm eating the full-fledged, 4% bad boy they sell out at Costco! Thank goodness for industrial-size packaging.
On the exercise front, I've cut back pretty severely. With my medical history, I'm terrified that something bad will happen if I do too much high-impact stuff. So, no running for the time being. Mainly, I walk, do light weights, and ride the exercise bike at the gym. I got in the pool for the first time in about a year on Thursday and had a great time. I only swam 3/4 mile but it was enough to get my heart rate up. After the new year, I"m going to try to swim at least twice a week. Yoga's also on the no-no list right now because the class I take involves a lot of ab work. I'm hoping to get a prenatal yoga video for my birthday or christmas.
That's enough for you. Be sure to tune in next week.

Great Expectations!
Kristen and I have some great news. After waiting over twenty years to find the love of my life, I am expecting to have a child in mid June to early July with my lovely wife Kristen. We have known for a bit but wanted to get all of the parents and Grandparents informed first. We are extremely happy. We have started making preparations for making a home space for our new arrival.
Devin is greatly relieved that we have gotten started.
Check this page weekly for pictures (maybe), progress reports, as well as shower dates and more information. Kristen will try to update it at least once a week.
