Week 23

Big news!!

I had my second sonogram this morning. Mark was tied up at an AOA (optometry) convention, so I invited my dad to come. It was almost as neat to watch his face as see the little squid on the screen!

Luckily, I have nothing but good news to report from this month's visit. The squid is very healthy, weighing in around 1 1/4 lbs with a heartbeat of 162 beats per minute. They can no longer tell the baby's length because the squid has already started curling into the fetal position. (That would explain the 2-4 a.m. yoga class in my abdomen.) Dr. Dinh said the placenta is sitting pretty low right now, but not to worry about that. They'll check again around 32 weeks to make sure it's not blocking anything.

In other baby news, I can eat tuna fish!! It has to be cooked and local stuff is out, but there's not much local tuna around here. I've also been advised to keep my feet above my heart as much as possible, particularly on days where I'm out and about a lot. That should help the swelling I've had in my feeet. My weight gain is also right on track. Dr. Dinh wants me to gain about 25 lbs in my pregnancy so that would put me around 170 lbs when the squid arrives.

The only other thing to report is that Mark and I found this awesome baby carrier at a baby/maternity consignment show last weekend. It'll be great for hiking--and the best part was that it was more than half-off the normal price! Woo hoo! We also picked up some used books and classic children's movies--you know, the ones you can't find anymore because they're not "cool" enough.

The home renovation projects also continue. We've finally finished the floor in the guest room. Now we just have to install the baseboards and move the furniture back in from the PODS. The baby's room is in flux until we find/borrow a table saw to do the wainscoting.

That's all for now. Gotta run.

Based on your baby's heartrate I can guess the sex, though I'll keep it to myself unless you want to know what I think.

Don't tell me. I have a feeling but I don't want to know for sure. :-)
